The senior citizens and the young were among the most enthusiastic and early voters during the May 10 first ever automated elections.

Poll watchers and the members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) observed that many senior citizens and first time voters and young professionals were in their voting precincts even before seven in the morning of may 10.

In the morning of election day, a bomb exploded at the Mindanao State University in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, prompting the transferring of 17 precincts stationed at the polling center. 



In Abra province in northern Philippines, private militiamen of local candidates in Bangued, Dolores and Langangilang towns proliferated near precincts. In portions of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), politicians provided transportation for voters, bags of rice, and envelopes with money.

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Wednesday it had received 96.1 percent of election returns from the field and that 3.69 percent of areas still unaccounted for covers an estimated 1.5 million voters who may not be counted until other “administrative problems” are solved.

In an interview, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said, “In some areas, the field personnel are waiting for certain poll paraphernalia, and this is delaying transmission of results; others are awaiting replacements for PCOS machines or compact flash cards.”

Tonight is LeBron James’ defining moment. It is all on the line for the King tonight. His Cavaliers are facing elimination at the hands of the aging (or is that ageless) Boston Celtics tonight, and LeBron and the Cavaliers are going home, and the King’s crown will have another huge dent.

No question Boston is playing their best basketball of the season right now, clicking on offense, and playing swarming team defense, but the lopsided score in the last game was at least partly a matter of the Cavs giving up. And That is an ominous sign.

Soldier dies protecting Rizal election officers

A soldier died while leading fellow Army troopers in fighting off a band of rebels allegedly trying to grab the counting machines and ballots from election officers in Tanay, Rizal Wednesday, the military said Thursday.

Lt. Colonel Noel Detoyato, spokesman of the 2nd Infantry Division, said Private First Class Roel Saclote was killed in a brief clash with suspected communist rebels in Sitio Kinabuan in Barangay Sta. Ines, Tanay town at around 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
